Thank you for your interest in from Tikwalus Heritage Trail!
The wood for this work was gathered in September 2026 from the trailhead of the Tikwalus Heritage Trail, from just off of Highway One south of Boston Bar. I parked my car in the pullout, ventured a few feet into the forest, and gently gathered a collection of pieces of charred wood that seemed relatively dry, intact, and of a moderate size that was as large as I could carry and fit in my hatchback. I visited this site two times, as the first was exploratory and I only collected a few pieces. Both visits, I left a cored apple (no seeds) in the forest as a gift to the parched land. On my second visit I saw that the chunks of apple were gone without a trace.
I did not get permission to gather this wood. I will return it to the land, so it is displaced temporarily, but I still believe the way in which I have gone about this could have been better, more respectful to the land. I went forward in this imperfect space because of the urgency I felt from both the desire to present work in some proximity to the wildfire season, and from the demands of school, but I am both seeking ways to improve my process and open to commentary in that regard (feel free to email me at sciartjam@gmail.com ).

Thank you for reading, and a wee disclaimer in case you explore further here: the rest of this website is an old experiment of mine.
